Impetigo Pictures - About Impetigo
Impetigo is a highly transmittable bacterial skin infection most frequent between pre-school children. People who practice contact sports such as rugby; Wrestling and American football are also vulnerable, despite of age. Impetigo is not as frequent in adults.
Causes
Impetigo is principally caused by Staphylococcus aureus, and occasionally by Streptococcus pyogenes. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, both bullous and nonbullous are mainly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, with Streptococcus also frequently being involved in the nonbullous form."
Transmission
The contamination is spread by direct contact with lesions or with nasal carriers. The incubation phase is one to three days. Dehydrated streptococci in the air are not transmittable to undamaged skin. Scratching can spread the lesions.
